Toka Plum Bare Root Tree
A hardy pollinator with rich, aromatic fruit
The Toka plum, often called the “bubblegum plum,” was developed in South Dakota for cold climates and tough growing conditions. Its medium-sized fruit has reddish-bronze skin and golden flesh that is sweet, juicy, and highly aromatic, with a unique flavor reminiscent of bubblegum. Toka is also one of the best pollinator plums, helping set fruit on many other plum varieties.
Harvest: Late August to early September
Storage: Keeps 1–2 weeks, best eaten fresh or preserved
Zones: Cold-hardy to Zone 3
Tree Habit: Hardy, vigorous, and highly productive; excellent pollinator for other plums
For homesteaders and home gardeners, Toka offers both utility and flavor. It produces delicious fruit while ensuring reliable harvests from other plum varieties in the orchard, making it one of the most valuable plums for northern growers.
